Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid, Official Vehicle of the US Open

Participants to the 2010 US Open tournament, one of the biggest tennis tournaments of the year, will have a chance to experience first hand a fleet of Mercedes Benz vehicles, spearheaded by the Mercedes-Benz S400 HYBRID sedans and Mercedes-Benz F-CELL.

Mercedes Benz, a traditional partner of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), will be supplying 75 S400 Hybrid vehicles to be used as transport vehicles for players and VIPs alike, representing 60 percent of the total fleet of cars to be used for the event.

Sending the environmental conscious vehicles to attend the open is part of USTA's environmental program launched in 2007. Aside for using hybrid vehicles to transport participants, the association will also implement recycling, energy management, composting and utilizing paper products made of at least 30 percent post-consumer waste.

The star event of the open, aside for the tennis games themselves, will be the new green PSA campaign hosted by Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin. For Mercedes, this is yet another opportunity to practice what is says it will be a series of measures meant to promote eco-mobility.

"We are very excited to participate in the USTA's environmental strategy and positively impact the US Open green initiatives through the Mercedes-Benz transportation fleet,”
said Stephen Cannon, vice president of Marketing for Mercedes-Benz USA.

“By tapping our portfolio of eco vehicles, we can provide athletes, staff and officials with green transportation without having to sacrifice luxury or safety."

"Over the next four years, Mercedes-Benz is committed to exploring new ways through innovative eco mobility to help the USTA expand their environmental initiatives."
