After magic mustache man Dieter Zetsche announced the end for the Maybach Manufaktur car brand about two years ago, 2012 was the last year of production for the hyper-luxurious Maybach 57 and 62 models.
While the “Double M” might not get a proper return from the dead any time soon, Auto Bild reports that the “Maybach” nameplate might be resurrected as a Mercedes-Benz model, and not as a full-on car brand.

The Germans car magazine says that the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class W222 with extra-long wheelbase will be called the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Maybach, while the even longer wheelbase version will sport the regular “Pullman” name.

The report doesn’t sound too far fetched, as the original Maybach concept car from 1997 was actually wearing the three-pointed star.

The extra-long wheelbase “Maybach” version is expected to be launched at one of the major auto shows of 2014, with the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2014 being a distinct probability, as the Chinese appetite for long-wheelbase cars is well-known in the auto world.
