For some reason, there has never been a Car of The Year competition in the Middle Kingdom until 2013, but that fact is somewhat understandable if looking at where the Chinese automotive industry was about a decade or so ago.
This year, things are different, as the first competition of this type has just ended and the results are in, with none other than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class W222 being declared the 2014 China Car of The Year.

The award ceremony was hosted by Prime Research and Automobil Produktion during the Guangzhou Auto Show and the prize was received by the President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz China, Bicholas Speeks, who said that “the decision reaffirms the model's stature and position in China, its top market worldwide.”

No less than 53 candidates were eligible to win the China Car of The Year, with the 2014 S-Class being chosen from three finalists, which included the Land Rover Range Rover and the Chang'an Ford Mondeo.

The cars were selected and voted on by a panel comprising ten automotive editors-in-chief from ten different Chinese car magazines.
