The Swabians from Mercedes-Benz have finally revealed the flagship model of the S-Class V222 (LWB), and boy is it a performer.
With 630 hp (621 bhp) from 4,800 rpm to 5,400 rpm and an electronically-limited torque of 1,000 Nm (738 lb ft) from 2,300 and 4,300 rpm, the new S 65 AMG V222 is both the most powerful and the fastest luxury sedan on the planet, beating the records set by its V221 predecessor.

The first 100 km/h (62 mph) is met after just 4.3 seconds from a standing start, while the top speed is electronically-limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). Unlike the previous generation, the new model is also the most fuel efficient V12 high-performance sedan in the world, with a medium fuel consumption of 11.9 liters per 100 km (19.8 mpg).

The S 65 AMG's performance in the aforementioned areas is possible thanks to the 7 G-Tronic automatic transmission with a stop/start function and a new lithium-ion battery that replaces both the starter battery and the backup battery, resulting in a weight saving of over 20 kg (44 pounds) from this alone.

The optional carbon-ceramic brake system, apart from being 20 percent lighter than the stock system is also giving the new S 65 AMG the world's largest front disc brakes on a production car, sharing the 420 millimeters diameter record with the Bentley Continental Supersports.

As usual, the new model is exclusively available with the long-wheelbase (so it's internally codenamed V222 instead of W222) and with an array of standard features that would make an S 500 owner weep, especially since it's also the first Mercedes-Benz in history to be available with head-up display.

Another interior innovation is the touchpad controller we first saw in the Mercedes-Benz C-Class W205 interior photos, which can be controlled just like a modern smartphone or tablet.

The new model will be publicly unveiled in tandem at the LA Auto Show and the Tokyo Motor Show, from November 20 to 1st of December 2013, with the market launch to begin in March 2014. For all the sheiks and Russian oligarchs that are reading this, the new Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG starts from EUR 235,050 including VAT in Germany.
