Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the first official sketch of the upcoming C-Class Cabriolet.
The new body style in the C-Class range is developed on the Coupe version and will be shown at this year's Geneva Motor Show. The new C-Class cabriolet will be an integral part of the C-Class family and is considered the first convertible in this range. However, we must note that the German carmaker does not count the old CLK Cabriolet as a member of the C-Class lineup, even if the particular model did feature C-Class parts.

The decision to eliminate the CLK name from the portfolio and to clarify the naming scheme of the Mercedes-Benz range was made years ago and is a definitive step in making the brand's collection easier to understand.

The CLK used to look like the E-Class, but was built on the C-Class platform and had parts mixed between the two models. Eventually, the brand from Stuttgart decided enough was enough, and set its mind on naming the CLK replacement as a C-Class version.

The new C-Class Cabriolet will benefit from all the technologies and achievements implemented in the W205 range. Therefore, the engine range, technology features, safety tech, and interior design will be taken from the C-Class Coupe. Mercedes-Benz is expected to launch an AMG version of the C-Class Cabriolet as well, meant to rival the BMW M4 Cabriolet.

The unveiling of the first sketch of the C-Class Cabriolet took place on Mercedes-Benz's official Facebook page. Along with the sketch, brand officials have said that the new C-Class Cabriolet will have a four-seat configuration and will be based on the Coupe version. Furthermore, the carmaker has specified that the new C-Class convertible will feature a soft top configuration.

This would come as no surprise to us and our readers, as prototypes have already been spotted testing in this arrangement. The first prototypes of the C-Class Cabriolet were first recognized as early as 2013.
