The Daimler subsidiary Mercedes-Benz do Brasil just got an order for no less than 500 bus chassis from the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system operators in Belo Horizonte.
Being one of the twelve locations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Belo Horizonte is obviously gearing up for the much increased urban passenger transport that will most likely happen next year.
“We are happy to participate significantly in the growth of Brazil with our Mercedes-Benz buses. Transport businesses in the World Cup locations are relying on the modern BRT transport system, on the one hand, and on our bus portfolio, on the other. Our Mercedes-Benz city buses are represented in around 70 percent of the BRT systems in Brazil. Thus, we contribute substantially to the realization of sustainable mobility concepts in urban environments.” said Hartmut Schick, Head of Daimler Buses.
The 500 Mercedes-Benz buses will start being delivered immediately, with the entire lot to be ready in due time for the start of the BRT system in the first quarter of next year.
