Mercedes-Benz, Please Build a Three-Door A-Class!

When Mercedes-Benz previewed the high-successful third generation of their A-Class, they did it via a three-door concept car that captured the hearts of pretty much every hot-hatch aficionado out there.

Strangely-enough, the production version of the A-Class is now available only as a five-door model, despite the fact that both the concept and the previous generation of the car was available with the sportier-looking three-door setup.

Why, do you ask? We have no idea, since it actually doesn't make any sense whatsoever. We originally thought Mercedes-Benz feared that a three-door “coupe” version of the A-Class W176 would steal some sales from the CLA “four-door coupe” C117, but we soon got over that thought.

The reasoning behind not building an even sportier-looking A-Class will remain a mystery to everyone until maybe the model's future generation, while both BMW and Audi are currently bathing freely in the segment with the 1 Series three-door and A3 three-door, respectively.

Considering the major sales success that the A-Class and the Mercedes-Benz MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform in general is having, we strongly consider that such a variant for the small compact is truly needed and would increase market share even more.

With that being said, and since this “three-door A-Class” thought has been bugging us for quite a while, we decided to actually create one of our own.

Well, not exactly, since we're only talking about a rendering of how such a model could look – created by our very own Toyota Blog resident, Gabriel Brindusescu – but enough to spark a few thoughts of desire among some. What do you guys think, would it work?

PS: We have also included the regular five-door version and the Concept A-Class in the adjacent photo gallery to see our inspiration.
