While Mercedes-Benz is more than happy to share its MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform with Infiniti and the upcoming smart fortwo platform with Renault, it seems that the MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform will remain a three-pointed star feature only.
Speaking with the Aussies from Motoring
, the Mercedes-Benz board member responsible for group research and car development Thomas Weber told them that the MRA platform is something that the Germans will not share, whether now or in the future.
“There is no discussion centered on the MRA platform because MRA is Mercedes hard core,” said Weber at the Mercedes-Benz GLA official press drive event.
Thanks to the intensive use of aluminium and its scalability, the MRA platform is rather important for Mercedes-Benz in the upcoming years, and according Thomas Weber it will be used on at least ten different models – from SUVs to sedans, coupes and cabriolet versions with different wheelbases, widths and lengths.
