The recently revealed Mercedes-Benz V-Class wowed everybody, managing to bring aftermarket custom luxury at the tips of your fingers straight from the factory. If you’re looking for a business shuttle, the fully-loaded van is exactly what you need and if you’re simply looking to go out camping, the same model now comes with the right gear.
Called the Marco Polo, after the famous Italian explorer, the new V-Class-based van manages to take further the spirit of the VW Westfalia Camper by ditching the hippie spirit and replacing it with new-age minimalist shininess and latest technology.
As the exterior design remained pretty much the same, we’ll hop inside to find the same attention to details now being found in a harmonious color scheme and a modern furniture design.
The headlining and side panels are finished in a porcelain shade that emphasizes spaciousness and serenity, while the seats come upholstered in a choice of matching satin beige Santiago fabric, black Santiago fabric or satin beige Lugano leather.
Luxury doesn’t stop here as by default the luxo-camper comes with a robust and easy to clean yacht decking styled floor, while the kitchenette and and cupboards on the left side of the van come with a piano-lacquer look contrasted by light-colored surfaces.
To set the mood right, optional LED ambience lightning can be had along the lower edge of the kitchenette, which by the way consists of a large, self-closing drawer with an extending worktop, two smaller drawers that can be opened when the bed is folded out and a large storage compartment with a sliding door.
Functionality is assured by two gasburners, a sink and a 40l compressor refrigerator that can chill your food and booze “up” to minus 20 degrees C. A 38-liter fresh water tank and a 40-liter waste tank will ensure you can use the sink, and both of them are located inside the vehicle to be protected against frost.
The front seats can be rotated towards the rear, while the two-seater bench there can be turned into a bed at the push of a button, the side bolsters getting deflated and the bench seat rising a bit to conceal the belt buckles. A secondary bed can be found under the retro-styled pop-up roof.
Other features include an electric vent window on the rear right, black-tinted glass, roller blinds, windscreen and front windows curtains, two camping chairs as well as a table that can be stored under the bed.
The top engine choice does 190 hp (140 kW) and a maximum torque of 440 Nm while consuming just 6.1 l/100 km. While accelerating, an extra 13 hp (10 kW) and 40 Nm are unlocked to boost performance and aid with overtaking.
Prices haven’t been released yet, with the Marco Polo van being available to order in Germany from July 29th this year.
