Mercedes-Benz is The Most Profitable Van Manufacturer

Surprising as it may be for some folks, the three-pointed star manufacturer has the best return on sales in the world when it comes to van makers out there, with no less than 6.7 percent on each van they sold in 2013.

“We achieved a very good result in 2013. We managed to increase sales, even though our core market of Western Europe was weaker on the whole,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans and former CEO of AMG. “At the same time, we achieved double-digit growth rates in China, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. Moreover, our return on sales of 6.7% continues to make us the most profitable van manufacturer.”

Despite a rather difficult market environment in Western Europe, Mercedes-Benz Vans sales increased by three percent over the course of 2013, with Germany continuing to remain the most important market for the three-pointed star manufacturer globally.

In Eastern Europe, Mercedes-Benz Vans sales increased by 12 percent, while the car maker was once again the leader in terms of market share for medium-size and large vans in the whole of Europe, managing to acquire no less than 17.4 percent from the entire European van pie.

The Latin American market didn't go much worse either in 2013, with Mercedes-Benz Vans increasing its market share in Brazil by 5.6 percentage points to 23.1 percent, therefore extending its lead even more compared to the previous year.

With a product offensive that now includes the Renault Kangoo-based Citan, the recently-facelifted Sprinter and the newly-launched V-Class, 2014 should prove to be yet another record year for the Daimler division, not mention the fact that an all-new Mercedes-Benz Vito is also on the way.
