Normally, the older a car manufacturer is the higher are the chances that over the years it has managed to introduce a larger number of innovations in the industry.
With that in mind, there is no other automotive brand with a longer history or older roots than Mercedes-Benz out there, meaning that it only comes natural that the Stuttgart car manufacturer is the most innovative automotive brand out there.
Mercedes-Benz aficionados are probably well aware that many of the comfort and safety systems that much of today's cars use – such as the safety cell, collapsible steering column, seat belt, airbag, ABS or electronic stability control - were first introduced on a vehicle wearing the three-pointed star.
Nevertheless, “the most innovative car brand” tag can now be used by people other than Mercedes-Benz fan boys now, since it seems that information is also official, according to a comprehensive study by the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) and the Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) consultancy firm.
“With almost 170 index points, Mercedes-Benz demonstrates by far the highest innovative strength, even attaining the highest brand ranking in the AutomotiveINNOVATIONS survey. The three most innovative models also come from Mercedes-Benz, in the guise of the S-, E- and C-Class,” said Prof Dr Stefan Bratzel from the Center of Automotive Management.
Part of the AutomotiveINNOVATIONS Awards 2014 competition, the awards took place in Frankfurt/Main, with Daimler also winning the “Most innovative group” in the “Vehicle concepts” and “Safety Systems” category.
“Daimler is rolling out its innovations in other segment categories even more quickly than before,” said Prof Dr Bratzel in praise of the German manufacturer. “Around the same number of innovations for accident-free driving – 19 in all – are to be found in the E- and C-Class.”
No less than 18 global automotive groups consisting of 52 brands are systematically surveyed and assessed according to quantitative and qualitative criteria by the Center of Automotive Management since 2004.
