Yesterday we showed you a couple of spy photos depicting a Mercedes-Benz GT AMG (C190) sporting a body camouflage that was as mad as a hatter, especially compared with the types of camo that Mercedes-Benz has accustomed us with in recent years.

Today we received the rest of the photos from yesterday's shoot, so we can show you the funky prototype from almost all angles.

Thinking about it, there could any of following three reasons for the existence of the green flames camouflage:

  • Either it was adorned on the car as an April Fools Day inside joke between the Mercedes-Benz car testers/engineers and then they simply rolled with it.
  • This is a new type of camouflage that will soon be seen on plenty of other upcoming Mercedes-Benz pre-production models.
  • The green look-at-me camouflage was chosen because our speculation about the car's unveil at the 2014 New York Auto Show was correct and the Germans are trying to bring more attention to it.

Either way, we do know for sure that the Mercedes-Benz GT AMG (C190) is not far from being unveiled and that it should be quite a sports car.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged four-liter V8 that should develop around 500 hp and 700+ Nm (516+ lb ft) of torque, the upcoming three-pointed star sports car will not be all about power, but about handling as well. The rather small engine will sit way behind the front axle in the front-midship position, while the seven-speed double-clutch transmission will have a transaxle position, just like the SLS AMG.

This is no coincidence, as much of the aluminium space frame that the modern Gullwing uses has been modified to be used on the GT AMG (C190). Despite the technical resemblances between the two models, the upcoming GT will apparently be slightly faster on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, while also sporting a much lower price.

Latest reports talk about a starting price of around EUR 130,000, making it almost 30 percent less expensive than the soon-to-be-demised Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.
