The AMG version of the largest Mercedes-Benz SUV in the current lineup is a car of extremes, and it goes to large extents to prove most of its mind-blowing credentials.
In short, the Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG X166 is the fastest, heaviest, largest and roomiest performance SUV with seven seats in the world, and all these feats pretty much make it an offer that some people simply can't refuse.

Its suspension matches the Range Rover in terms of comfort, while at the same time keeping its ginormous weight in place in a very reasonable matter.

The twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 under that menacing hood develops the same amount of “go” as the ML 63 AMG with Performance Package. In translation, that means 557 hp and 760 Nm (561 lb ft) of torque, or more than enough to move the gargantuan all-wheel drive beast from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds.

Corroborating that sports car performance with the usual AMG V8 burble that transforms into a roar at higher rpm, the GL 63 AMG is not exactly your average soccer mom car.

Many people, Mercedes-Benz's marketing machine included, see the seven-seat SUV as an S-Class for seven that can also go off-road, which to us pretty much make it the car to have in its segment. Take a look at our full review of the GL 63 AMG (X166) for the rest of our opinions about the model we test drove.
