Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG Gets Reviewed by Jalopnik

The only AMG model with seven seats - the ill-fated R 63 AMG was only built by the hundreds starting with 2007 - the Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG is also the most powerful SUV in the German car manufacturer's lineup. The ML 63 AMG with Performance Package has the exact same engine specs, but since its an optional trim level you can't really call it “standard”.

The M157 5.5-liter V8 under the hood uses direct injection and two turbochargers to offer no less than 557 hp and an astounding 760 Nm (561 lb ft) of earth-moving torque.

It can therefore move the gargantuan 2580 kg (5687 lbs) of all-wheel drive mass from a stand still to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds, while with the help of the 7-speed MCT (Multi-Clutch Transmission) can give it an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Not bad for an SUV that can also conquer mountains with its seven passengers in total comfort.

The Jalopnik crew took a GL 63 AMG in on a road trip through the whole Northwestern part of the US and even a bit of Canada. If you want to read all about their adventures with the car you can do it here.
