After yesterday we told you about the facelifted E-Class Coupe and Convertible getting tested by Australian publication Car Advice, today is time to talk about their Mercedes-Benz GL 500 test drive.
As it will probably become the norm, we were first horrified by the model's gargantuan starting price in the land down under, with the model tested costing no less than 154,900 in Aussie Dollars.
Leaving the huge luxury vehicle tax imposed on the model aside, Car Advice seems to like the V8-engined GL for the huge interior space and the seven seats' ergonomics.
Oddly, the steering also gets and thumbs up while the air suspension is praised for both the comfort it offers and the pretty good road-holding for such a large and heavy car.
The rather poor fuel economy is coming as a consequence to both the car's huge mass and the performance offered by the 4.7-liter, twin-turbocharged and direct injected V8 mill. Speaking of which, the 2,445 kg (5390 pounds) GL 500 can get from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.4 seconds.
All in all, though, the car gets four out of five stars based on Car Advice's criteria of testing cars.
