Anybody who’s put the pedal to the metal in a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG knows just how determined this military-roots machine is to show you that it can dive into the triple-digit speed area as if it would cancel its weight and size with anti-matter. This is one of the reasons for which the G63 is hugely popular in Dubai and now it’s time to see how the people over there like to tune the Gelandewagen.
How do 728 hp and 1,052 Nm (776 lb-ft) sound like? This is what aftermarket specialist Simon Motorsports pulled off and they’ve got the dyno run to prove it. To be more specific, the Affalterbach machine was placed on the dyno before its tech side was touched, showing 563 hp and 776 Nm (572 lb-ft), very close to the official specs. By the way, the twin 776 numbers are amusing, aren't they?
The 5.5-liter biturbo V8 has an immense potential, so the aforementioned muscle building didn’t require too many hardware changes. In fact, the V8 was only fitted with custom downpipes and a BMC air filter, with everything being managed by the tuner’s Stage II ECU remap.
While you can see the dyno numbers in the pic above, the adjacent footage allows us to see and especially listen to the massaged G63 AMG doing its thing on the dyno. While the audio quality of the clip leaves certain things to be desired the aural potential of the car shines through.
