Mercedes-Benz has recently stopped the sales of the G55 AMG, with the vehicle’s order books being closed as of November 28. A company source told autoevolution that that the move comes as a result of the fact that the carmaker has received a massive demand for the AMG version of the G-Class and that the rest of the models in the range are still available.
As you know, Mercedes is preparing to introduce a facelift for the G55 AMG, which is expected to arrive next year. Since the vehicle hasn’t been unveiled yet, customers can’t place orders for it and Mercedes can’t allow them to buy the current model either, due to the fact that the aforementioned huge level of demand means the entire production - until the facelift enters the stage - has already found owners.

Considering the fact that the production of the G55 AMG doesn’t bring a high volume, it means that the introduction of the facelift is pretty close. As for what will be under the bonnet, we still don’t know if Mercedes will choose to ditch the current setup for he new twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 that delivers between 525 and 544 hp.

We’ll remind you that a Daimler source confirmed for autoevolution that Mercedes will also build a V12-powered version of the off-roader, which should receive the G65 AMG designation.
