Mercedes-Benz G500 4x4² Looks Larger Than Life in Geneva

Mercedes-Benz are good with legacies and know how to make models succeed one another in style. We’re saying that because the G500 4x4² made its debut during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and it looks pretty much ready to go everywhere with that notorious arrogant attitude

The video created to mark the off-road titan’s online debut is nothing but a statement of power and insane capabilities whet in comes to rough terrain. You know, anything from sand dunes to cliffs and deep swamps - jumping through the air included.

In Geneva though, the G500 4x4² looked calm and collected, despite photographers and journalists kept pointing cameras and staring at it. Don’t take that obedience for granted, because under the hood lies a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that shares DNA with the one in the AMG GT and more recently, the new C63 AMG. There's also plenty of carbon fiber on spread across both the interior and the exterior, otherwise any car lover will know he's looking at a bolstered good 'ol G-Wagen.

The V8 is good for 422 HP and will surely make a more interesting choice than the standard G500’s 5.5-liter atmospheric V8 delivering 388 HP. This doesn’t mean that the G63 AMG 6x6 mammoth was forgotten. Not at all, since the G500 4x4² received the all-wheel drive system with portal axles from the 6x6.

Resources are filtered through a 7-speed G-tronic automatic gearbox fitted with a separate transfer case and the usual high / low ratio gearing. Ground clearance (450 mm / 17.7 in) makes any other conventional SUV look like go-kart and the 22-inch rims will give you an air of superiority over everything that moves on the road.

There’s one thing we don’t understand though: why one Earth would you want to paint such a car in white for a motor show debut? Why Mercedes, why?
