The days when the mighty G-Wagon was just an off-roading vehicle (well, not really "just," but rather "the best") are long gone. Now, the G-Class is just as much a luxury option, even though none of those rough terrain abilities have been lost.
With its price tag going as high as 282,208 euros for the Mercedes-AMG G65 EDITION 473 (the price for Germany, including 19% VAT), it quickly becomes clear that money isn't in any way a problem for this type of clients. And people who don't care how much they spend on a car are very interested in one particular thing: personalization.

Up until now, anyone interested in making their G-Class that bit more special could turn to one of the countless tuners who deal with Mercedes-Benz models. They could go to Brabus if they wanted to make the most of the engine, to Mansory if they wanted to scare little kids, or Vilner if they wanted every conceivable surface wrapped in leather complete with a set of travel bags. There was no shortage of options.

Now, though, Mercedes-Benz is offering a more official solution by launching the "designo manufaktur" program. The shop located in Graz, Austria, does everything by hand and offers its clients almost infinite personalization options, both inside and out.

For instance, Mercedes-Benz G-Class owners can opt for one of the new exterior colors ranging from matte yellow-olive magno to shiny mauritius blue metallic. If color isn't enough, they're also invited to choose from a wide range of wheel designs, including a stainless steel ring for the spare wheel cover.

The popular Night package that was available for other Mercedes-Benz passenger cars can now be specced for the G-Class as well and comes with exterior mirror housings, roof, flared wheel arches and bumpers all finished in black.

The inside is where things get really interesting, with numerous leather combinations all with exquisite finishing and top-quality stitching. The two AMG models get some special attention with microfiber covering the AMG steering wheel, as well as the seats, door panels, roof liner and other important details.

Mercedes-Benz wants some of the pie the tuners have been munching on up until now, and with such a wide set of options it's hard to imagine its customers will need to go anywhere else from now on. For a complete list of available modifications, check out the press release below.
