When the civilian version of the Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen was introduced 34 years ago, nobody would have thought that three decades later it would sport a twin-turbocharged V8 with 544 hp (537 bhp) and 760 Nm (560 lb ft) of torque under that flat hood.
Since lfrom 2012 it can also be fitted with the twin-turbocharged V12 from the 65 AMG models, pretty much anything is possible now with this military-derived vehicle that refuses to die - with its production to continue until at least 2019, when the model's forty-year anniversary will happen.

Riding on a separate chassis, with rigid front and rear suspension and no less than three differentials in standard, the G 63 AMG is not exactly the type of car you would expect to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standing start in just 5.4 seconds.

The peeps from LeftLaneNews recently had a go in the 2013 Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG and wrote a pretty thorough review about what its like to manhandle such an iconic vehicle. We also test drove a similar beast some time ago and our conclusions seem to be rather similar.
