We didn’t expect to find the Mercedes-Benz G 500 4×4² at a drag racing event, but that’s exactly where this beastly example was filmed, trying to beat its sportier sibling, the GLE 63 S 4Matic+.
Telling it apart from the normal previous-gen G-Wagen is very easy, as all you have to do is look for the huge fender flares. And if those don’t do the trick, then it also features other stuff, such as the elevated ground clearance, roof-mounted LED lights, scuff plates, rear bar, and fat tires hugging the 22-inch wheels.

On the inside, the G 500 4×4² features exclusive upholstery and trim over the normal G-Class models, as well as Dinamica microfiber, contrasting topstitching, and that’s about all. Since it is based on the older generation, it gets the same infotainment system and other stuff and retains the high driving position, very decent rear headroom, legroom, and generous cargo area.

From a performance standpoint, you are looking at 7.4 seconds needed from rest to 62 mph (0-100 kph), which translates to forever in the world of drag racing. Top speed is electronically capped at 130 mph (209 kph). The beastly off-roader is powered by a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8, rated at 416 hp and 450 lb-ft (610 Nm) of torque, which is hooked up to a seven-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive.

Since it is on the extreme side of the segment, the G 500 4×4² is still a six-digit affair, provided that you can find one for sale and, as we already mentioned, is no bullet on wheels. Even so, that did not stop the owner of this example from having some straight-line fun behind the wheel against one fast GLE, and you can pretty much tell which one was quicker, can’t you? The action starts at the 6:44 mark, but if you decide to watch the entire vid, then you will see the said AMG race other fast rides.

Editor's note: The video was apparently shot a while ago, but it just made its way online, and since it's pretty much SUV season in the northern hemisphere, we decided to share it with you.
