Mercedes Feeling More and More at Home in the US, Could Buy Naming Rights for NFL Stadium

At the beginning of this year, Mercedes-Benz announced it was expanding its business on American soil and it had chosen Atlanta as their new main US headquarters. The company was previously located in New Jersey, but now construction on a new plant and office buildings in Atlanta, Georgia has already started.

The complex is expected to be ready in two years time, the Mercedes-Benz HQ employees working from temporary offices until then.

Mercedes-Benz will undoubtedly become a very important name in and around its new US home-city, and their latest alleged move can only speed things up a little. Knowing how important football is all over the USA, Mercedes-Benz has presumably acquired the naming rights for the Atlanta Falcons NFL team stadium.

The Falcons' new nest is still under construction, with delivery scheduled around the same time as the Mercedes-Benz US HQ - in 2017, before the 2017-2018 NFL season kicks off.

This new stadium comes at a pretty high price, the reported sum being somewhere around the $1.4 million mark (1.22 million euros). But you could say it's money well spent, as the stadium comes with a set of cool features that should make Mercedes-Benz even more proud of associating its name with such a structure.

It seems the usual mumbo-jumbo design talk isn't restricted to cars alone, as the stadium's designers claim the general shape of the structure was inspired by the wings of a falcon. Right. The more practical features, however, are quite impressive: the eight translucent panels on top can be opened and closed in less than eight minutes.

The layered structure of the stands allows the total capacity to be expanded to a maximum of 83,000 seats, or shrunk with the help of some mechanized curtains when not needed (like when the local MLS team Atlanta United FC plays, as soccer is still catching on over there). Not impressed yet? Take this: the five-storey tall 360-degree Halo Board will be the largest video board in the world.

If this report turns out to be true, Mercedes-Benz will be the proud owner of naming right for two US stadiums, as they already have a ten-year deal with the Louisiana Superdome NFL stadium signed in 2011.
