We just couldn’t believe that Mercedes chose the F125 Concept to celebrate its 125th anniversary. The car had gullwings like the rumored baby SLS AMG that’s reportedly on the way, but it also was an electric vehicle powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, and we just couldn’t understand what they were going to turn it into.
Now, the the elongated teardrop shape is starting to make a lot more sense not as a precursor for a sportscar, but as an answer to the dilemma that big, thirsty cars face in the future.
According to a new report from Automotive News, the F125 Concept actually hits at a future electric S-Class sedan.
“This is a visionary outlook that’s the direction we have to go with large cars,” Thomas Weber, r&d chief for Daimler AG said. “This research car was built with the perspective of, what does a car in 2025 look like? — more than two generations ahead.”
Mercedes probably has a lot of money riding on hydrogen right now, so we’re likely to hear a whole lot more of technology in the future.
