Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Gets HRE Performance Wheels, Celebrates with a Beautiful Photoshoot

It has happened before: custom wheel makers are responsible for some of the most beautiful pictures of cars ever taken, and there has to be a logical explanation for this, one we're still missing.

This Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG with HRE Performance wheels makes no exception. The current generation of the mid-sized saloon from Mercedes-Benz is quietly waiting to be put to sleep, but that doesn't mean it's not still worthy of our attention.

After all, it was good enough to raise some interest from HRE Performance Wheels, an American-based tuning company that makes 3-piece and 1-piece forged aluminum alloy wheels. They chose the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG as the showcase car for their P108 HRE ten-spoke rims and took it to a remote location where they shot it. Multiple times.

You would think that opting for a satin-black finished set of wheels would call for a lot of light, but you would apparently be wrong. The guys at HRE Performance Wheels had no problem with the photographer's suggestion of shooting the car at dusk, with the sun close to the horizon. And they even took some shots after it went below.

As if that wasn't weird enough, they chose a tight angle for all of the six pictures made available, and we all know the best way to view a car's wheels is from the side. With the number plates that read AMG, you'd be forgiven if you thought it was a photo session conducted by the Affalterbach company.

And, to be honest, leaving the HRE wheels aside - they do look good, by the way - we're happy to catch a few last glimpses of the outgoing E-Class, especially in its AMG form. The new car, as the latest spy shots are showing, will lack the edgy personality of this model, being more or less a mathematical average between the S-Class and the C-Class.

Mercedes-Benz is catching up in terms of sales with its main competitors, but it's doing it at the cost of the uniformization of its range. On the long term, this might prove more damaging than lower sale rates.

So, if you want to take a better look at the wheels, take a look at the gallery below. For even better results, download the images, open an editor and do something about that brightness.
