After earlier we told you about the E 63 S-AMG pitted against the Holden HSV GTS, it is now time for another Australian comparison between an E-Class and a Holden, only the subjects are represented by two much lesser models in the two brands' lineup.
The Holden VF Calais is, as expected when it comes to the land down under, almost two times cheaper than the rather comparable Mercedes-Benz E200, which a W212 facelift model.

Did we say comparable? Well, the Motoring editors certainly think so, and by looking at both cars' specs and exterior dimensions we'd be inclined to say so as well.

Naturally, the E200 is better equipped - both from a safety or a comfort point of view - and has a much more premium feel on top of a better fuel consumption, but it certainly can't justify a price that is twice as bigger than its Aussie competitor.

As we have mentioned in other instances, Australia has a giant Luxury Tax on certain imported vehicles, although it doesn't quite make up the humongous price difference between Australian Mercedes-Benz models and those exported to other countries. Whether it's simply the German's greed or some other unknown reason remains debatable. Until we figure it out you can check out the short comparison video below.
