Mercedes-Benz E 350 vs BMW 535 xDrive vs Audi A6 3.0T vs Cadillac CTS 3.6

The midsize executive segment in the United States is kind of like a Middle Eastern oil well, one of the most disputed places between powerful competitors on the planet.

In terms of both sales and cachet, the segment is pretty much lead by four car brands: Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi, with Cadillac defending the home team.

Each of them has a highly competent vehicle for this match, with everyone but Audi offering cars that are in their first year of production.

Mercedes-Benz and BMW launched their facelifted E-Class and 5 Series, respectively, this year, while Cadillac started sales of the all-new third generation of their CTS just a few months ago.

Car and Driver decided to pit the four segment leader against each other, choosing the E 350 from Mercedes-Benz, the 535 xDrive from BMW, the CTS 3.6 from Cadillac and the A6 3.0T from Audi.

As expected, the cars are rather well placed against one another in terms of technology and engine power, but it's the way they drive and what they deliver for the money that really sets them apart. The Mercedes-Benz obviously wins the comfort category of the match hands down, but you should read Car and Driver's comparison for the entire details.
