Earlier this week we were telling you about Mercedes’ new 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission that will make its debut on the E350 BlueTec model. Now, the German company has released full details on their new gearbox.
Claimed to make the E350 BlueTec “one of the most fuel-efficient six-cylinder diesel model in its class”, the new nine-speed automatic transmission, the first to be equipped with a torque converter according to Mercedes-Benz, reduces fuel consumption from 5.5 to 5.3 liters/100 km, while CO2 emission will go down from 144 g/km to 138 g/km. The 9G-Tronic also helps reduce external noise by up to 4 dB, which translates into a more comfortable cabin.

The German company also says the new nine-speed automatic is compatible with rear-wheel, all-wheel drive and hybrid powertrains as well, so we expect that the transmission will be fitted to other vehicles from the Mercedes-Benz range in the near future.

Until then, the 9G-Tronic will be offered as standard on the E350 BlueTec in both sedan and estate version starting from €54,710 and €57,923 respectively (Germany).
