The phrase “that'll buff right out” is seldom used in contexts other than sarcasm, with most users saying it just as humorous remark upon seeing a highly damaged car. Apparently, that may be no longer a rule if the following story is entirely true.
We're sure that many of you are aware about the Mercedes-Benz Designo Magno matte paint line, which for some only sounds like a pretty cool way of burning the content of your wallet while configuring a Mercedes-Benz.
This comes mainly because there are now lots of vinyl-wrapping companies which offer a much wider range of matte “frozen” colors for their clients and the costs are not even in the same league, nevermind the ballpark.
Well, as it turns out, the Designo Magno line of paint colors isn't simply expensive for no reason at all, at least according to an incident told by a member of the MB World forum.
The owner of a 2011 Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG specced with an unnamed Designo Magno matte paint from the factory encountered a bit of a problem when driving on a highway.
While minding his own business at around 120 km/h (70 mph), a tread from the rear tire off of a large truck separated from the tire and hit his E 63 AMG head on before going under the car.
The impact was allegedly so strong that in the beginning he had though that the front bumper may have disintegrated, so he quickly pulled over and called his insurance company, who told him that the estimated costs would situate around $1,200.
The next day, with the car in service, a technician brought a Mercedes-Benz-approved cleaning product and simply wiped off what had initially appeared to be serious paint damage on the front bumper.
The insurance estimate therefore decreased from $1,200 to precisely $0, so next time when you want to go the vinyl wrap way before considering an actual Mercedes-Benz Design Magno “frozen” paint you might want to think again.
