Mercedes-Benz Confirms New GLS and SL Will Be Launched This November - Probably in L.A.

Mercedes-Benz is coming after a very strong year in terms of sales, and you also wouldn’t call the Stuttgart brand lazy when it comes to the number of new models it has released in 2015.

Actually, the last three months were the strongest quarter for Mercedes-Benz so far, setting the stage for a very promising end of the year. Mercedes-Benz is already in second place when it comes to sales in the premium segment, behind BMW, having overtaken rivals from Audi this year.

However, if the current trend continues in the same vein, Mercedes-Benz has a chance to perform a double-overtake in a single year, with the gap separating the three-pointed star company from their Bavarian neighbors in the south becoming tinier with every passing day.

Mercedes-Benz has every reason to think its sales have nowhere else to go but up after launching a few new models early this autumn, like the C-Class Coupe or the S-Class Cabriolet. What’s more, it has also all but confirmed the SL roadster and the GLS luxury SUV - both facelifts - will be unveiled towards the end of next month.

The company wasn’t that specific, but it did say these two models would see the light of day (more like the light of spotlights) sometime during next month, and the only possibility that makes any kind of sense is the Los Angeles Auto Show, taking place between November 20 and 29.

For one thing, the GLS was always expected to break cover in the US, as together with China, it’s the most important market for Mercedes-Benz’s largest SUV. The SL, on the other hand, is losing ground everywhere, but launching a convertible model in the sunny L.A. will always make more sense than the gloomy Frankfurt, for example.

And Mercedes-Benz still has a number of new models in store for next year, the most important of them being the 2017 E-Class, a car that’s been one of the main sellers for Mercedes for the last part. As things are sitting right now, it seems only a matter of time (and not very much of it) until Mercedes-Benz becomes the best-selling premium manufacturer in the world. And then, it will be time for the others to play catch-up.
