Mainly propelled by a gigantic 73.6 percent jump in China sales, Mercedes-Benz has gotten closer to Audi in the first two months of 2014 much more than it did in the same period of last year.
While Audi global sales increased by 7 percent in February, the three-pointed star car maker achieved an increase of 16.6 percent during the same time.

“We are keeping up the high momentum of the previous months - with a double-digit sales increase and growth in all regions”, said Ola Källenius, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars responsible for Marketing & Sales and former CEO of AMG. “Our E-Class and S-Class are posting particularly strong growth rates. And, as the incoming orders for the GLA and the C-Class indicate: We have the right products at the right time.”

While each of the German trio of premium car manufacturers has been experiencing increases in sales for quite some time now, it is the three-pointed star that seems to grow at a much faster rate starting with 2013.

With the highly successful MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform to achieve maturity in 2014 thanks to the launch of the GLA X156 crossover and the CLA Shooting Brake C117, while the C-Class W205 should become a best-seller as well, it is expected that Mercedes-Benz will continue their hunt for Audi and BMW market share even better than before.

Losing the number one spot in terms of global luxury car sales back in 2005 to BMW and being surpassed by Audi as well in 2008, Mercedes-Benz folks have vowed to regain their place by 2020, and if their recent momentum is kept in the following years they might as well achieve that even sooner.
