Understeer. This is quite a demon when you rely on front-wheel drive like many CLA versions do (the majority when it comes to Europe). Nonetheless, the tweaking performed on the MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform means this is kept in a leash. Heck, the CLA even allows you to play with the rear a little bit. The aforementioned discovery got us all inspired, so we’re bringing you a set of HD wallpapers, which come in a 1280 x 720 px or in a 1920 x 1080 px form.
This streamlined profile is the most valuable lesson the CLS father has taught the CLA. The first popularized the four-door coupe segment one generation ago and the CLA hopes to do the same, albeit in a compact envelope. On its way to visual success, the CLA also holds a few elements that may look like they’re trying too hard when viewed from certain angles, such as the front grille. Don’t worry though, they’re not present in the image above.
It’s not like the Mercedes-Benz CLA needs this, but the AMG exterior package does quite a lot of its appearance, 18-inch rollers included. The only issue here is that the AMG pack takes 0.4 inches (10 mm) off the already modest ride height. Thus, you end up with a car that has a minimum ground clearance value of 3.54 inches (90 mm). Like a supercar this may be, but that’s far from an asset inside the city.
We needed a frame for the CLA, so we brought along an industrial one. On our way to this location, we had to go over some more serious potholes, the kind you do encounter in the city, but only on rare occasions. The front parking sensors ended up... in the red, but no aprons were hurt during the making of this image.
The CLA’s cabin might have been introduced by the A-Class, but the three air vents you see here actually come from the Mercedes-Benz SLS. Yes, the modern Gullwing brought the airplane theme under the spotlight, continuing the brand’s rounded vents tradition.
