The following video is part of the “why is Mercedes-Benz still testing cars that are already on sale?” mystery saga, started by some footage we showed you last week, courtesy of the Nordschleife aficionados YouTube channel, TouriClips.
Today we have an even more interesting clip, this time of the already launched Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG. Apart from still not having a clue about the reason behind its testing, there is another peculiar detail about the footage.
Everytime each of the two CLA 45 AMGs passes by the people filming you can hear a high-pitch whistling sound that appears to be made by either the exhaust or by the spinning turbocharger. Either way, it's not something you would normally hear from an internal combustion engined-car.
The mystery was somewhat solved by a pretty believable YouTube comment, which noted that it's most likely a modified exhaust so that Mercedes' competitors can't make out the maximum rpms and transmission shift points while the car is still being tested.
Whether that solution to our predicament is true or not remains to be seen, but the original question remains: why is AMG still testing cars that are already in dealerships?
