Mercedes Benz CL 500 Anniversary Edition

German manufacturer Mercedes is celebrating this year the 100th anniversary of its three pointed star emblem with a number of special editions of some of its models, including the CL500. This edition of the CL500 features a new AMG package, visible both on the outside and the inside of the car.

The "100 years of the trademark" special edition boasts all the new features of model year 2009, including, as we said, the AMG Sports package: new front and rear aprons, side skirts and sports pedals of brushed stainless steel with black rubber studs, and painted brake calipers with Mercedes-Benz lettering.

Speaking of brakes, they are hidden underneath 20-inch 5 twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels painted in titanium grey, available only for this anniversary model. The wheels wear 255/35 R 20 tires at the front and 275/35 R 20 at the rear.

On the inside, the CL500 is fitted with hand-stitched designo aniline leather, wood/leather steering wheel, shining black piano lacquer trim and anthracite Alcantara roof lining. Infotainment is insured, as an option, via the Front Seat Entertainment package (6-disc DVDchanger, surround-sound system and SPLITVIEW).

The anniversary edition package is available for both the CL500 and the CL500 4MATIC and will be available in showrooms starting June 26. Buyers will have to pay an extra 17,850 euro (VAT included) for it. That's on top of the price paid for the vehicle itself.

As we said, this edition came to be as a way to celebrate the 100 year of existence of the company's trademark emblem, the three point star. On June 24 1909, Daimler officially registered the design of the Mercedes star. On August 6, Benz did the same for the letters "Benz", enclosed by a laurel wreath. The two companies became one in 1926, and since then we know them as Mercedes Benz.
