First tested by EuroNCAP back in April 2013, the rebadged-Renault Kangoo known as the Mercedes-Benz Citan didn't fair so well. In fact, it had the lowest EuroNCAP score of every Mercedes-Benz crash tested in the last 16 years, with only the C-Class W202 from 1997 having a lower rating.
Naturally, despite not being a car engineered from the ground up by the Stuttgart maker but simply borrowed from Renault and then slightly modified, Mercedes-Benz vouched that it will improve the small van in order to achieve a higher score.
One and a half years laters, the Citan has been reworked in all the safety areas it wasn't up to par and was reassessed by the EuroNCAP.
The results are in today and the MY 2014 Mercedes-Benz Citan has increased its EuroNCAP rating by a star, with a total of four stars now vowing for its improved safety.
Nevertheless, looking at the pole impact bit from the video bellow we are kind of wondering what type of paper alloy is the crash structure made from. Wasn't Renault boasting about its 5-star EuroNCAP lineup a few years ago?
