Aimed directly at Audi’s S models and BMW’s M Performance Automobiles, the C450 AMG Sport is only the first model of an entire range that will soon follow. The Germans decided to open the AMG Sport saga with the C-Class and the GLE model.

Looking straight at the Audi S4, this model is also supposedly trying to close the performance gap between the ‘regular’ C-Class models and the full-on AMG spec ones, like the recently unveiled Mercedes-AMG C63 and C63 S.

Therefore, the performance numbers are right there as well, with the car featuring a 3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 under the bonnet making 367 HP and 517 Nm (382 lb-ft) of torque. On top of that, the model is hooked up to 4Matic all-wheel drive transmission along with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Thanks to the new specs, the 450 AMG Sport is capable of reaching 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.9 seconds in sedan guise while the wagon is slower by 0.1 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) as usual.

At the moment, the C450 AMG Sport has no rival from Munich or Ingolstadt. The Audi S4 has a turbocharged V6 engine making 333 HP and 441 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque, while the BMW 335i sits even lower at 306 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Rumor has it that BMW will launch a 340i model with the facelift of the current model and fix that problem with a 360 HP 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine.

As far as visual improvements go, there little setting apart the AMG Sport from a regular AMG package fitted model. Up front there’s a subtle aerodynamic kit making its presence noticed with new bumpers that have a silver lip spoiler attached to them.

Round the back there’s also a new diffuser integrated into the bumper between the tailpipes. Other changes include the new mirror covers and side skirts as well as bespoke 18" wheels, quad tips at the back and a slightly upgraded interior.

In the chassis department, the AMG engineers apparently made some tweaks to the regular C-Class design and included a new suspension as well as new brakes with brake discs measuring 360 mm up front and 320 mm round the back to handle the extra power.
