Mercedes-Benz C-Class Five-Door Coupe Rendered for Your Pleasure

The C-Class has currently got just three body styles, with the sedan being joined by the T-Modell estate and the recently launched Coupe. An open top version is expected soon, but that's now what we want to talk to you about here.

We want to talk about BMW 3 Series GT. The Bavarians launched this strange idea of a more spacious sedan or a sleeker estate - depending on how you look at it - with the 5 Series GT. From a commercial point of view, it was a complete failure not very different to Mercedes-Benz's own R-Class fiasco.

However, since it was their original idea, they decided to stick with it and carried it over to the smaller 3 Series. Second time's a charm, apparently, as this mid-sized saloon turned slightly weird-looking 5-door coupe (or a 4-door coupe with a tailgate, if you prefer) looks a lot better than its bigger brother.

Whether Mercedes-Benz will try to emulate their neighbors from the South is still a matter open for speculation, but our restless Photoshop wizard Theophilus Chin has no time for that and has created a very convincing version of what it would look like.

Only that's not what he's done, according to his own words. What we're looking at here is a competitor for the Audi A5 Sportback and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. Whoops, my bad.

Well, maybe a 3 Series GT rival wasn't his intention, but we feel that's what he's pictured here. It's true, even the BMW mid-sized range is a bit confusing, and it's sometimes hard to tell them apart if you're not paying enough attention. Maybe Mercedes-Benz will be less willing to overcrowd this area of its lineup than BMW.

The way we see the Stuttgart brand right now, we'd say it's much more likely it will come up with a classic, CLS-style (their invention, after all) four-door coupe version of the C-Class. As things stand, the 3 Series GT and 4 Series Gran Coupe just don't have that much market appeal to justify this move from Mercedes-Benz.
