For the moment, only three engines will be available for Great Britain, and somewhat foretelling the British propensity for diesel, two of them will be oil-burners.

The entry-level model will the be Mercedes-Benz C 200, which uses a two-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 184 hp and 300 Nm (221 lb ft) of torque and which starts at GBP 28,055. In case anyone cares, that represents a premium of GBP 1,200 over the sedan model.

The entry-level diesel and the second most expensive model will be the C 220 BlueTec, with its 2.1-liter four-cylinder developing 170 hp and 400 Nm (295 lb ft) of torque, and tts starting price sitting at GBP 30,565.

The top of the range model at start will be the C 250 BlueTec, which has the same 2.1-liter diesel as the C 220 but with an extra turbocharger for more torque, giving it 204 hp and 500 Nm (369 lb ft) of torque for a starting price of GBP 33,220.

A six speed manual transmission comes in standard on the C 200 and the C 220 BueTec, with a seven-speed automatic being optional, while the C 250 BlueTec comes with the 7G-Tronic Plus in standard.

Two more engines, consisting of the C 200 BlueTec as a new entry-level diesel and the C 300 BlueTec Hybrid – will join the rest of the lineup by the end of the year, while more powerful petrol engine will be launched in 2015, along with 4Matic - although that is unconfirmed officially.
