Mercedes-Benz C-Class Bags 2015 World Car of The Year Title in New York

Mercedes-Benz had plenty of reasons to celebrate last's year's performance in terms of sales and new models launched. They also started 2015 with the right foot and the C-Class being named World Car of the Year is a solid proof.

The road to winning the WCOTY title is by no means an easy one. The initial entry list comprises 24 models for all over the world. But that list is cut to a shortlist of only eleven cars, which will ultimately give out three finalists, announced during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

This year, the final battle involved some big names from the car industry. We're talking about the Ford Mustang, the VW Passat and, of course, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. After the jury had come up with a decision, the C-Class was crowned the 2015 World Car of the Year.

"Taking its design and technological cues from the S-Class, the C-Class employs an all-new aluminium/steel hybrid platform and updated rear-drive powertrains that delivers levels of refinement, luxury, safety, ride and handling that challenge best-in-class," explained the World Car Awards jurors.

This wasn't the only success Mercedes-Benz put under their belt in New York. The company's flagship, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé was named World Luxury Car of the Year. Furthermore, the AMG GT earned the World Performance Car of the Year status and completed the hat-trick for the Stuttgart-based brand.

Last year, the S-Class was named 2014 Women's World Car after 15 journalists - all ladies, by the way - judged the finalists according to ten different criteria, including style, appeal, design, comfort and 'wow' factor.
