Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG vs BMW M5 Exhaust Battle

There is no denying that we are fans of the epic M156 and M159 engine family here, with the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG W204 being one of our favorite hosts for this fabulous V8.

With that being said, not a day goes by without us mourning the upcoming demise of the legendary 6.2-liter mill, as 2014 is the year where it will be sadly replaced by a twin-turbocharged four-liter V8 with various stages of power.

As most of you already know, the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG and all its versions is the last three-pointed star vehicle to sport the M156, with the SLS AMG only featuring versions of the M159, which is itself a more powerful version of the M156.

Nevertheless, it was probably the C-Class which made this naturally-aspirated V8 the celebrity that it currently is, and most of that fame came from the eargasmic exhaust sound that a Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG delivers.

The following short video is doing a very good job at exemplifying just how awesome a stock C 63 AMG sedan can sound when revved, especially since it battles against a mighty BMW M5 of the F10 variety.

The two cars are as different from each other as chocolate is from vanilla, but they do share one massive common point: they both have V8 engines.

The larger BMW M5 makes us of a 4.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 that mostly sounds like a bear in heat from the outside and like a muffled down regular engine from the inside. Which is why BMW has fitted it with the Active Sound system, which distributes fake engine noise in the cockpit.

The smaller and feistier C 63 AMG on the other hand is as old-school as it gets, with its 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated powerplant sounding like a caged lion while being poked with a sharp stick. Which one of the two would you prefer, judging from the video below?
