As most of the more hardcore Mercedes-Benz aficionados already know, the three-pointed star brand is celebrating 120 years of motorsport in 2014, with a number of related events being planned for the entire year.
For example, this year's Techno Classica show in Essen (26 to 30 March 2014) will feature at least 30 historic Mercedes-Benz racing cars from all periods and disciplines of motorsport.
The Mercedes-Benz exhibition stand encompassed in the show will therefore be a pretty cool highlight of the 26th world show for vintage and classic cars, with no less than 4,800 square meters being available for the aforementioned models.
“Techno Classica, as one of the most important venues for historical automotive culture in the entire world, is the befitting setting for this excellent presentation of original competition cars from twelve decades,” said Michael Bock, Head of Mercedes-Benz Classic.
“For us the year 2014 is entirely devoted to the magic moments from 120 years of Mercedes-Benz motor racing history. For Techno Classica, on our architecturally superb stand, we are showing competition vehicles from our own collection covering all eras of our motor sport history. They are the protagonists of a unique - and uniquely diverse - automotive heritage.“ Bock continued.
Speed record cars, Grand Prix, rally vehicles and even truck racers will take a bow for the public in Essen, with the 110-year-old Mercedes Simplex having a special place as the oldest racing car in the exhibition.
Apart from the vehicles, racing drivers and Mercedes-Benz brand ambassadors such as Dieter Glemser, Hans Herrmann, Ellen Lohr, Klaus Ludwig, Steve Parrish, Björn Waldegaard, and Karl Wendlinger will also be guests on the exhibition stand during the event.
