The awesome-sounding Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks (CTT) company, who happens to be neighbor of the more famed Bugatti in Molsheim, have just introduced another one of their special trucks: a five-axle version of the Mercedes-Benz Arocs.
Designed to be used in heavy-duty construction work, the new Arocs with five axles and a gross vehicle weight of 40 tons has two steering front axles and two air-sprung drive axles, with an extra axle that's steered relievable and liftable, in order to increase the payload or improve handling in tight spots.
With a total of three steering axles, the truck's turning radius is reduced to 19.6 meters (64.3 feet) and the “regular” Arocs 8x4/4 transforms into a Arocs 10x4/4, which is more than able to drive with a gross vehicle weight of 44 tons in off-road terrain, such as small hills filled with zombies.
As usual with newly-released vehicles wearing the three-pointed star logo, the engine is Euro VI-compliant, which also makes it benefit for a lower-rate country road tax in Switzerland, which is where five-axle trucks are apparently very popular.
