The Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake, probably one of the prettiest estate cars ever made in our opinion, has just received its official pricing information for the UK. After having sold some 170,000 examples of the sedan variant, since its introduction in 2004, Mercedes has very high hopes for the estate version of the new car.
Available for order starting mid-September, with first deliveries beginning in November, the CLS Shooting Brake starts off at some £49,360 OTR, for the CLS250 CDI BlueEfficiency which gets Mercedes’ excellent 2.1-liter diesel engine, with 204 hp and 500 Nm (368 lb-ft) - that’s V6 performance from four cylinders and, we say, the pick of the range.

If you want an actual V6, then you’ll have to opt for the 350 CDI, which features the brand’s familiar 3.0-liter diesel, which now pumps out an impressive 265 hp and 620 Nm (457 Nm) - this version kicks off at £53,000. However, if petrol power is what you want/need, then your only option is the 63 AMG, which is powered by a 5.5-liter V8 engine which has the characteristic ‘rumbly’ exhaust note which fans of the brand so dearly love - this particular model costs £83,030.

All engines, including the V8, are economical, with the 250 CDI returning an excellent 53.3 mpg (5.3 l/100 km), the 350 CDI returning an equally impressive 47.1 mpg (5.99 l/100 km) and the AMG version managing a very decent 28 mpg (10 l/100km) - impressive, for something with 557 hp. Furthermore, Mercedes is also selling this as a practical offering, and they claim it has some 590 liters of space with the rear seats up, and 1,550 liters with the seats down - extremely impressive numbers,

The fun part of buying a luxury car like this is, of course, the options list which is so large nowadays that if it were to be fully spread out, it would cover most of Europe, parts of northern Africa and it would even touch the British Isles. You can find stuff like AirMATIC semi-active suspension (£1,150), American Cherry Wood load compartment with black inlays (£4,030), full LED headlights with Intelligent Light System and Adaptive Highbeam Assist (£2,995), aluminium rails (£870), not to mention the stuff it gets as standard - no, really, we aren’t going to mention that.
