After a journey of almost 4,000 kilometers (2485 miles), a convoy consisting of 11 new Mercedes-Benz articulated trucks has finally reached its destination, in the city of Gaziantep, Turkey. That's where the distribution center for humanitarian aid to the Syrian refugee camps is located, next to the Syrian border.
The Actros convoy carried urgently needed refugee supplies valued at about 4 million Euros and it had started its journey on September 19 right from the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The journey took six days to be completed and the 11 trucks went through Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and finally Turkey.

Apart from some long delays at some of the borders, which we suspect happened in Romania and Bulgaria, the convoy reached Turkey with virtually no problems – especially since many drivers on the road were cheering the Actros trucks as they passed.

In Istanbul the Mercedes-Benz drivers were joined by three other trucks from Turkey which carried flour, sugar and other goods.

The Actros convoy was a joint project between Wings of Help and Daimler Trucks, and helped deliver tents, baby food, wheelchairs, two ambulances, seven mobile medical centers, 10,000 blankets, winter clothing for 40,000 people and 50,000 child vaccinations for the Syrian refugees situated at the Turkey border region.
