There were quite a lot of Mercedes-Benz aficionados who got their feeling somewhat insulted by the news that certain models from the Mercedes-Benz MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform will be getting 1.5-liter diesel engines sourced from Renault.
Not-so die hard fan didn't have a problem with it, especially since the 1.5-liter four-cylinders aren't bad engines in their own right, usually offering segment-leading economy.
In the UK, for example, the Mercedes-Benz A 180 CDI ECO is the most fuel efficient A-Class you can currently buy and is powered by the aforementioned diesel.
Sporting the “ECO” badge does brings a couple of changes, such as improved aerodynamics thanks to more underbody panelling and a lowered ride height, longer gear ratios for the higher gears, an improved brake energy recuperation system and a slightly smaller fuel tank for lower weight.
Autocar's Mark Tisshaw recently had a go in the most fuel efficient A-Class in the UK and came back with some rather nice words about the model, but you'll have to read the entire review for a better picture.
