Mercedes B45 AMG With 350 HP Being Considered

We’ve just learned that Mercedes has a 350 hp 2.0-liter in the A45 AMG, but of course that’s not the only car coming with that the four-banger turbo. The CLA sedan will surely follow in order to cater to the US market, but the B-Class might become an AMG as well.
AMG head of development Tobias Moers managed to shed some light on this subject in his recent interview with British magazine Auto Express. He says the B45 AMG is possible and quite simple to built, provided they get the go-ahead from Mercedes.

The development of the A45 AMG actually started with the B-Class, since the A-Class didn’t exist at the time. “We have three four-wheel-drive B-Class sitting around at AMG," Moers admits. The B45 AMG would be powered by the same 350 hp, 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) engine, coupled to an AWD system and a 7-speed AMG-tuned dual clutch gearbox.

The B45 AMG doesn’t sound that sexy on paper, but then Mercedes probably doesn’t want to have a model without an AMG version. The B-Class is already a huge market success story, and development costs wouldn’t be higher than say making the AMG E-Class Estate for instance.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
