The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) today announced that it has rewarded its maximum 5-star safety rating for 2 Mercedes-Benz models, the B-Class and the Valente van.
The B-Class performed well during the impacts tests thanks to a multitude of Safety Assist Technologies (SAT) that include a radar-based collision warning system and brake assist (these are standard features).
“The ANCAP Rating Road Map progressively introduces minimum mandatory and additional SAT requirements over the coming years. Ahead of its time however, the B-Class has scored beyond the current requirements to achieve this 5 star result,” said ANCAP Chair, Mr Lauchlan McIntosh.
As for the Valente, this is the second 5-Star van in the history of ANCAP, following another Mercedes-Benz, the Viano, with the vehicle offering standard head-protecting side airbags for the front seats.
“As early as the 1950s Mercedes was forging ahead in vehicle safety with the development of the passenger safety cell, and with the addition of modern-day SATs, this is a winning combination for consumers,” Mr McIntosh said.
