Mercedes ATTENTION ASSIST Comes With Chance of Amorous Encounter

Mercedes Benz has just released another new commercial for its C-Klasse, this time for its ATTENTION ASSIST system (no, we are not being deliberately annoying, that is how it's written). The 50-second video is done in the traditional style we have grown accustomed to: it's funny but not in an offensive way, and comes with a touch of class befitting a luxury brand.

The ad features a gorgeous young female character who is driving along on a strait piece of asphalt in her C-Klasse saloon. The ATTENTION ASSIST warns the beautiful driver that she is beginning to doze off, so she pulls into a roadside cafe. Inside the scene is....well, we can’t rally describe it for fear of law suits for civil rights activists, so just see for yourself. A cup of coffee is already waiting for her on the counter and, as she sits there, a good-looking, sharply-dressed gentlemen asks her: “Also ATTENTION ASSIST?”

The 2012 model year C-Klasse offers ten new driving assistance systems ranging from the standard ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system to the optional DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control system.

The new system warns drivers when it detects that they are overly-tired. According to the German carmaker, “studies have shown that around a quarter of all serious motorway accidents are caused by drowsy drivers, making this factor an even bigger cause of accidents than drink-driving.” With this feature, which is standard for Elegance and Avantgarde, Mercedes-Benz is therefore making another important contribution towards helping to avoid accidents. It comes with high-resolution sensors that observe driver behaviour and can recognise whether the driver is tired or not paying attention based on steering wheel movements.
