Starting next week, the G500 won't be the only armored SUV you can buy from Mercedes-Benz, as the German automaker decided to include two versions of the M-Class in its Guard lineup.
The new ML350 and ML500 variants, which are in compliance with the VR4 protection level, come with reinforced body and frame elements in order to resist ballistic attacks and even hand grenade explosions.

To seal the SUV against any villainous attempt upon its passengers, Mercedes has fortified the ML with polycarbonate-armored windows, tight-fitting special steel, increased structural firmness for the passenger compartment and run-flat tires.

Since the car is now a lot heavier, weighing about 5,600 pounds (2.8 tons), the Adaptive Damper System and the axle components have been redesigned. Despite its weight, the ML500 is able to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standing start in just 6.5 seconds thanks to a gasoline 408 HP engine. The less powerful ML350 BlueTEC, using a 258 HP diesel, needs 9.4 second to get to 62 mph. Both versions have a limited top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).

The cars are available on order from March 15 with prices starting at $154,000 (EUR 118,650) for the ML500 and $136,670 (EUR 105,050) for the ML350.
