Mercedes-AMG, the performance-oriented brand from Daimler, is preparing a new SUV, called the GLC 63.
Naturally, it is based on the Mercedes-Benz GLC, and you already know about the performance version because you have seen spyshots of it before. This time, our friends at SB-Medien have spotted a unit that was almost uncamouflaged.

The lack of camouflage on this prototype you can observe in the photo gallery reveals the fact that it is closing in on launch day. Only the front bumper is covered in a layer of camo, while the rest of the vehicle is undisguised.

Even the Mercedes-Benz badge sits firmly on the front grille, while the rear of the car bears no additional markings that reveal it’s an AMG.

However, you just have to look beyond its massive and mismatched wheels to spot a set of performance brake discs of generous dimensions. Previous prototypes of the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 were spotted with two types of rims, and we have seen this before on other prototypes.

Since the GLC is built on the C-Class platform, we expect the “63 AMG” cousin to share its twin-turbo V8 engine. The latter is borrowed from the AMG GT, and is projected to provide 476 HP for the base model and 510 HP for the performance enhanced version that will bear the “S” suffix.

The prototype does have a set of trapezoidal exhaust tips, an element which might not make it into production considering AMG models have different exhaust tips, usually in the form of two squares for each muffler.

However, we would not exclude the possibility of this prototype to conceal a Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 model, but the wheels and brakes are a little too big for such a version. Either way, the GLC 63 is expected to come to market before the end of this year, so we might see it launched at the Paris Motor Show, set to start on September 29, 2016.
