Mercedes-AMG continues the teasing campaign for the GT R, the sporties version of the Mercedes-AMG GT.
The production model will be unveiled three days from today, on June 24, 2016. Mercedes-AMG has chosen the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed as the event where it will publicly showcase its latest creation.
The performance division linked to Mercedes-Benz has also detailed a few of the specifications of the new GT R. First of all, the new production model will come with a front-mid mounted V8 Biturbo engine, which is mated to a transaxle transmission. No surprises so far, except for the new power level, bumped to 585 HP (430 kW).
Mercedes-AMG has also modified the undercarriage of the car, and the engineers have made significant aerodynamic improvements.
The model has also been improved to reduce weight, and all of these modifications put together should bring “an ultimate driving experience,” as Mercedes-AMG explains.
Concerning performance, Mercedes-AMG has revealed that the new GT R will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.6 seconds. Top speed is rated at 318 km/h (198 mph), and the company promises “extraordinary driving dynamics.”
Along with this teaser, which shows a green car, AMG has revealed the name of a new exclusive color, called “AMG Green Hell Magno.” As you probably realized by now, the name of the new shade is a direct reference to the nickname of the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife. Since Mercedes-AMG used the circuit to develop the new GT R, we can understand their need to make a direct reference to the world’s most demanding track in the world.
Mercedes-AMG will continue its product portfolio expansion, but the new GT R will stay at the upper end. The statement from the German company makes us think of new versions of AMG GT, but none that will exceed the track performance level of this variant. In terms of power, the Black Series is still a few years away.
